The Power of One


The Power of One

Early this morning I had a dream. In my dream I was at the retreat this weekend and only one person showed up. We started through the practices and it was a wonderful exchange of leading and learning.

Mid way through the retreat the gentleman asked me if it bothered me that only one person showed up for the retreat because I didn’t seem upset about it. Smiling I answered that, when I prayed to expand my territory that I may be of service to more people, I released expectation of what that looked like so that I could be open to receive what it is.

Then I related that when he chooses to smile at a person he is not disappointed that there is only one person in that moment for him to smile at, he just smiles. The person who receives it smiles in return and then shares the smile with another person and soon his smile at one person has become a smile to hundreds or thousands of people. This is the power of one.

When we let the Creative Force and Universe out of the boxes we build for them from our own self-imposed limits the results are pretty magical and magnificent. When we remember the ripple effect of simply being present in a moment we understand, once again, The Power of One.

LIVING NON-ATTACHMENT

attached: emotionally connected: having strong feelings of affection.

attachment: strong feelings of affection or loyalty for someone or something.

affection: an unnatural form of behavior that is meant to impress others.

non: absence of

Non-Attachment: [my definition] the absence of strong feelings: the absence of an unnatural form of behavior that is meant to impress others.

The past few days this subject of non-attachment has been weaving its way through my consciousness.  I am inspired to embrace it, to live it, but before a can accept it I must have a full understanding of what it means to me. For if I do not understand a thing how am I to commit to live it. Therefore, the definitions extracted from Webster’s Dictionary  preceding this dialogue.

For me, non-attachment means living free of strong feelings and emotions that go against my true nature for whatever reason. Living free of anxiety, free of loss, free of lack, free of fear. Non-attachment means living free of attachments to people, objects, outcomes and expectations.

As I move into this state of being I find it requires that I be more and more attentive and observant of my thoughts, words, actions and reactions. Being aware of that which goes against my true nature is required if I am to live a life of non-attachment.  

In order to live a way, be a way, you must be observant to know when you are living the way and when you are not. This does not mean to judge oneself when not living the way. Observance has no need for judgement. It  simply brings awareness into the consciousness and once there lets it go. What you do with it once it is in your consciousness is your choice.

Now that I have chosen non-attachment as a way of being I am aware of the many ways attachment was imprisoning me. I have become aware of attachment to physical things, to outcomes, to expectations, to people, to ideals and beliefs that had been accepted into my belief system that I do not even agree with.

Although I have just begun this journey of living non-attached it has already created a space of freedom within me. There is a new peace in parts of me where conflict used to reside. From this new peace it seems much easier to live and dance with life in a harmonious flow that feels more and more true to who I am.

May you find your harmonious flow. 
May you be peace and may you live love.

ANGER


Conversations With My Self
Anger

The Conversations With my Self series began when I was inspired to share some of the conversations that go on between myself and my [higher] Self. Sometimes these conversations are to help me work out my stuff, other times they help me understand another persons stuff.

Me: I am so angry!

Self: Why?

Me: This other person did this and said this and it was wrong and it makes me so angry that hey did and said those things.

Self: Why?

Me: Because they are wrong and it is wrong of them to say and do what they said and did. It’s just wrong!

Self: So why are you so angry?

Me: because it’s wrong but they don’t see it as wrong and there is no way that I can make them see that it’s wrong because they won’t listen.

Self: So, you’re angry because you cannot control how they think and how they perceive things.

Me: No, I don’t want to control them, I just want them to see that it was wrong.

Self: You want them to see things the way you see them.

Me: Yes

Self: Why?

Me: Because they are wrong

Self: But from their viewpoint you are wrong. Do you want them to be allowed to force you to see things the way they see them?

Me: No, but that’s what they are trying to do is convince me and everyone else that I am wrong and they are right, which they aren’t. They are wrong.

Self: If you don’t want them to be able to force you to accept their viewpoint then why do you believe it is acceptable for you to force them to see things your way?

Me: Because I’m right and they’re wrong

Self: There will always be moments in which you are right and they are wrong just as there will always be moments in which you are wrong and they are right. You should never have control over how another thinks and perceives, how they act and react. You should however have control over how you think, perceive, act and react. 

You are here to be you. You are not here to be anyone else. Therefore, you should only have control over you.

When you observe and determine that another is wrong to say a thing or do a thing the only control you should exercise is your response to it. You can choose anger and block out any blessings you may receive from the lessons embedded in the experience. You can choose anger and deny yourself the peace your soul longs for you to know. You can choose anger and feel disconnected from others, from your true self, from your source or…You can choose to observe and determine that their perception is not in alignment with yours and since you do not agree with their words and/or actions you choose not to receive them into you being. Because their belief is not your truth you can choose not to accept as your belief….And you can make all of these choices from a place of peace when you love yourself and respect yourself.

When you love and respect yourself there is no reason to be angry when others try to impress their beliefs on you because you are at peace with you and no longer require their acceptance or love.

You see dear child, it was never about anger at them for not seeing things your way, it was fear that you are not loved, accepted and respected enough to be valued for having your own beliefs and for seeing things your way. In other words, for being you. When you love, accept and respect yourself there is no fear of whether others will or not. There is only peace. And in that place of peace there is no need for anger regardless of their words or actions.

Me: All this time I thought I was angry at them when I was really angry at me. I was angry because I didn’t love, accept and respect myself enough to not allow their stuff to determine how I felt about me.

Self: So, love yourself, forgive yourself, and let it go. Stop living in the past. You cannot fully receive the blessings of the present while living in the past. Forgive yourself for letting them control you through your anger. Forgive yourself for giving your power away through your being angry. Forgive yourself completely. Accept that you are a miracle of the divine and live, now.

MAKE SPACE

MAKE SPACE

for the Life You Dream

I was recently reminded that on this road to creating the life you dream you must make space. Where there is clutter there is no space to receive a new reality, a new life, a new way of being. Clutter is anything unfinished, unused, unresolved, or disorganized. There is emotional clutter, mental clutter, and physical clutter.  What follows is tools to help you de-clutter and make space for the new life you dream of. 

Emotional Clutter is all the emotions that you have stuffed away, locked up, refused to deal with. Although these emotions may not be right on the surface they do affect the way we interact with our daily life and they take up precious space that is needed for new emotions, the ones that attract what you dream for yourself.  

One of the best methods for emotional de-cluttering I have used and recommend to my clients and friends is the Bridging The Minds Technique. This is a writing technique that is extremely effective for those who follow the directions precisely. 

Mental Clutter is all the mental lists, random information, and the ever whirling thoughts that go on each day. There is no room for new, creative information and thoughts if your mind is packed full already. Furthermore, a busy mind is a distracted mind and a distracted mind is unable to focus on creating a desired effect / life. To create new, you must free up space for it first. 

Grab your notepad and pen. Make a list of all the information streaming through your conscious mind. Your list may surprise you. Take a look at your list and take action to move those things from your mental space to a storage space. For example, take all of the things on your to-do list and create a to-do list in a space where you will see it daily and can cross things off as you go. Back in the day I was known as the "post-it" queen. That was my method of getting the to-do things out of my head space to make it less cluttered. Today I have "sticky notes" on my computer that remind me of each days to-do list. 

Continue on your list finding new space for all of your mental clutter to reside. Perhaps the most important key to relaxing mental clutter is having a system that allows you to easily retrieve the information as needed. The next is trusting that you will find it when you need it so that you can mentally let it go. This allows your mind to relax and a relaxed mind is a creative mind, one that can see solutions a cluttered mind cannot.

Physical Clutter is all the stuff in your physical environment that is unused, disorganized or broken. The rule of thumb is that anything you have not used in six months needs to be given away or sold. Objectively evaluate anything, including family heirlooms, that sit unused. Ask yourself why you are holding on to it. If there is an emotional attachment then objectively evaluate if there is unfinished business or unresolved emotions that need to be addressed.  As you resolve old business / emotional attachments you free up space for the new life and the new things you dream for your life.

Observe any areas of disorganization in your physical environment. These areas of clutter typically represent fear. Vulnerability is something we have been taught to fear. In many cases a fear of vulnerability has been the product of our past experiences and something we learned for survival.  In truth, vulnerability is one of the greatest strengths we have. Often our disorganization which leads to piles of this and piles of that are simply outward expressions of our fear of vulnerability. We build piles of stuff around us so that we can feel protected from the outside world. Doing the emotional work to release these fears will help as we do the physical work to organize a little bit at a time.

Broken and unfinished items stored throughout your physical environment are typically a reflection of internal feelings of brokenness or incompleteness. Take time to observe anything that has been sitting broken or unfinished for six months or more. Notice where in your physical space these items are. This offers great insight as to the internal parts they reflect. Make note of what these items are and what emotions arise as you contemplate them. Now you are ready to do the emotional work and the physical work to repair or release and to complete what is unfinished.

On your road to creating the life you dream you must make space for it. Making space allows you to have the room to receive it and frees your creativity to manifest it. Make Space for the Life You Dream and see what happens :)

BREATHE, RELEASE, PROTECT


There are mornings, like this morning, where I am very aware of intense energies planet wide. The energy actually started building yesterday and this morning appears to be affecting animals of all kinds including human. Text messages began at 1:02 AM my time. 

There are three steps I recommend to managing intense energies. These are actually a good daily practice regardless and very effective for those who are highly sensitive. 

1) Breathe! Take a deep breath all the way in to your lower belly. Let it float around there as long as you can. Exhale slowly visualizing that anything not for your best and highest good joins in the flow of the exhalation. Pause. Observe how your body and mind feel now. Repeat as necessary breathing into any areas of tightness, stress, or anxiety allowing the exhalation to carry it away. 

2) Release! Let go of what is not yours to carry. HINT: Nothing is yours to carry, Nothing. Be aware of any burdens, anxiety, tension, fears, etc. that you are carrying in your body or mind. Typically you will find these in places that are sore or achy or flat out painful. You need not know what they relate to so long as you are ready to release them.

3) Protect! Everything is energy and energy flows around and through you continuously. Some of this energy is beneficial, some is not. Protection empowers you to say no to energies that are not beneficial and those that are in fact harmful. Perhaps the simplest protection is to invite Pure Love to dwell in, through, and around your body. Love is the highest vibrational frequency in the Universe and, because of the Law of Nature, any energy in opposition to love will immediately be repelled and leave the space it inhabits. Think of it as switching on a light in a dark room.

Let It Go - It Isn't Yours To Carry

Conversations with My Self

Each morning I have this routine as I awake.  I check in with my body, my mind and my soul and ask if there is any disconnect, disharmony or imbalance and offer Reiki and love to those places.  Next I ask for guidance and wisdom to restore well being to any parts of my self needing it. Often the response is an restorative affirmation or affirming thought.

This morning the affirmation that came to me was "Let go of what is no longer yours to carry" and in, what is for me, typical fashion the next thought was "and since nothing, absolutely nothing, is yours to carry that means let it all go...it isn't yours to carry, never was." WOW! Talk about straight to the heart of it.

As I let these thoughts sink in and realized the truth of them an epiphany hit me. Being created in love/light, by love/light, for love/light, the only things I should be carrying with me are those which resonate with love/light. Anything else is in conflict with my true nature. Double WOW!

Having this research loving mind of mine I was utterly fascinated by what I observed happening throughout my physical body and mental body as these thoughts settled through me. Both my physical and mental bodies felt as though they were shedding pounds and pounds. I began breathing easier and deeper. Muscle knots that I hadn't noticed were loosening and going away. I observed that not only was my physical and mental bodies being affected but suddenly my emotional body felt empowered with infinite possibilities as though I could do anything...kinda super hero like :)

We are amazing creatures but were were not designed to carry around stuff that is not in harmony with our true nature. So, let it go. See what happens for you when you do...and let me know.

The Secret Superpower of Slowing Down

Recently I decided it was time to start washing dishes by hand again. Let me explain. As a mother of three there were many years where alone/quiet time was a challenge and escape from stress nearly impossible. One day I discovered washing dishes by hand was the answer. No one wanted to help so everyone completely avoided the kitchen when I announced, “I’m going to go wash dishes.” 

It was my quiet time, my time to let everything go, my time to breathe, my sanctuary. Recently we had more dishes then dishwasher space and the stress of running two businesses, the last son graduating high school, and life in general was wearing on me. I recalled how peaceful dishwashing time was in years past and decided it was time to resurrect it.

Now, I know that sounds crazy to many of you. How can I have time to wash dishes by hand with so much going on. The truth is, there is a Secret Superpower when you Slow Down and when life is busiest is when you need it the most. The Secret Superpower is Peace! When you slow down and let things go it has the same effect as meditation. Your mind becomes clearer (less cluttered), you blood pressure goes down, you breath and relax allowing more oxygen into the blood stream (making everything work better) resulting in Peace.

When you do return to “life” you have a peace and calmness to handle each moment life offers. Something which tends to go MIA when you are stressed. As I always teach, meditation takes many forms. Whatever you do that allows you to let go, breathe and restore a peaceful mind is a great meditation. While I practice and guide traditional meditations, I am also a firm believer in The Secret Superpower of Slowing Down.

Balancing & Healing the Heart Chakra

According to Wikipedia, Chakra derives from the Sanskrit word for “wheel” or “turning.” The chakras are considered to be a number of wheel-like vortices that exist within the subtle body being the focal points for the reception and transmission of energies.  It is generally accepted that there are seven main chakras in the body system which include the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown.

Many traditions, therapies and disciplines have found connections between the health of each chakra and the health of specific areas of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. When life energy is allowed to flow through the energy points, chakras, with ease and in balance, the body systems respond in balance and harmony. Through life experiences and daily life we may develop blockages that become trapped in one or more chakra resulting in imbalance and disharmony. Those of us who work in the fields of healing commonly see the physical, mental and emotional results of these blockages. 

According to Chinese Traditional Medicine, Summer is the season of the Heart so enjoy this information on the Heart Chakra and have a lovely Summer!

The Heart Chakra ~ The Heart Chakra center is located in the center of the chest between the two breasts.  According to Wikipedia the Heart Chakra is related to the thymus, located in the chest. The thymus is an element of the immune system and part of the endocrine system.  It is responsible for fending off disease and may be adversely affected by stress.  

A balanced and healthy Heart chakra results physically in proper circulation. Emotionally it results in balanced emotions, compassion, tenderness, unconditional love for self and others. Mentally it results in balanced passion and spiritually results in devotion. 

When this chakra is blocked, out of balance or holding negativity it may result in heart related physical issues; lack of love, compassion or tenderness; and lack of devotion or passion.

The most common symptoms I see in my practice related to the Heart Chakra include: chest pain and or back pain in the area of the chest; pain in the shoulders; problems breathing; “guarding” the heart so as to not be hurt; holding little or no hope in love or life. In every case I find a connection between the heart blockage or negativity and a past event that is also creating imbalance in another chakra…the most common being the solar plexus.

Perhaps the most challenging aspect of healing the Heart Chakra is believing that it is safe to open the heart to allow healing. It goes against our survival instinct to allow a damaged area to open up and be vulnerable, yet that is exactly what must happen if you wish to heal.  Healing begins with being open and vulnerable to love.  

For me, success came when I learned what love truly is. We have all learned different meanings of love based on our experiences. Understanding what love truly is allows expectations to be released and love to be experienced for what it is…love.  The best definition for love that I have found is within the word Metta or Maitri on Wikipedia. At its core Metta or Maitri is love for the sake of love alone, love without clinging or expectation of outcome.

Balancing & Healing The Heart Chakra

Imperative to healing the Heart Chakra is learning to love yourself. I regularly recommend that clients write love letters to themselves to help with this. Positive Affirmations are very healing. Helping others is a healing balm for the heart.   Forgiveness is perhaps one of the most important components of healing the heart. Most of us have wounds that only forgiveness can heal. It is important to see that forgiveness is for our healing…it has nothing to do with the other person or what they did…forgiveness is something we do for us, for our healing, so we can be free!
