The I Ching this week reminds me of a dream I had earlier in the week. In the dream I was, in an instant, transported to a space where I was in prison garb, shackled at the back of a line of others the same as I. We were in an arena and there were those watching for amusement as the prisoner at the front of the line was commanded to kill the creature or be killed. The creature was shackled, same as us, very large and terrifying to look at but silent and still.

One by one the prisoner at the front of the line would, in terror, lunge toward the creature in great attempt to kill it only to kill themselves by not being aware of the limitations of their shackles or obstacles in their path. Others simply collapsed dead from fear where they stood. I noticed that as one died another would appear behind me to replace them.

As I came closer to the front of the line I asked for guidance. "How am I to slay this fearsome creature?" A voice asked me "what makes the creature fearsome?" "It creates fear." "It does not create fear. You create fear and project fear upon it." Release your fear and look upon the creature without fear." As I did this I saw the creature was terrified, just like us, that he was filled with sorrow that he would cause fear and death to any being, and that more than anything else he wanted to be free. As I became the first in line I asked once again, "what shall I do?" A voice replied, "love." I gently walked forward saying nothing but allowing love and compassion to swell in my heart. I spoke softly to the creature words of compassion, of love, of peace and of freedom. As I came face to face with the creature I noticed he was receiving and radiating the same love, compassion, and peace and suddenly we both heard and felt the shackles break open and fall to the ground as did all the other prisoners. We were free. The creature and I embraced for a brief moment then, in an instant, we were returned to our homes.

As I awoke from my dream I asked for the meaning and it is my understanding that I am to hold tight to the truth that in the face of great fear, the fear is but a projection from my ego, from my self. Love, which is the only truth, waits on the other side of fear and sets you free. Freedom is attained by facing fear and seeing past it to see truth. Love frees fear.

The Solar Plexus Chakra
To Act

by Regina Ann

According to Wikipedia, Chakra derives from the Sanskrit word for “wheel” or “turning.” The chakras are considered to be a number of wheel-like vortices that exist within the subtle body being the focal points for the reception and transmission of energies.  It is generally accepted that there are seven main chakras in the body system which include the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown.

Many traditions, therapies and disciplines have found connections between the health of each chakra and the health of specific areas of the physical, mental and emotional bodies. When life energy is allowed to flow through the energy points, chakras, with ease and in balance, the body systems respond in balance and harmony. Through life experiences and daily life we may develop blockages that become trapped in one or more chakra resulting in imbalance and disharmony. Those of us who work in the fields of healing commonly see the physical, mental and emotional results of these blockages.

In an effort to promote healing we will look in depth at each of the commonly accepted chakras over the next few months. Along with information that is widely accepted pertaining to each chakra, each article will also include some real world pertinent experiences with that chakra.

Solar Plexus –

As a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, I have found that many of my clients and students experience blockages and trauma to the Solar Plexus Chakra – the seat of Self Power.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in the area above the naval and below the heart.  It houses our will and our perception of self power.  When in balance and harmony its natural state is laughter, joy and feelings of empowerment.  When disharmony or imbalance occurs the results can be manifested as feelings of powerlessness, anger, as well as pain affecting the areas of the stomach, liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

Allowing someone else control over your will and self power is the most common cause of Solar Plexus disharmony in my experience.  Your will and self power is designed to be yours. When you allow another person control over your will or when you allow them to exert power over you it creates symptoms related to the Solar Plexus Chakra. Chief symptomatic complaints include digestive issues, stomach problems, fat stored in the area and blood sugar imbalances.

Another cause I commonly see for Solar Plexus disharmony is that of living as a victim. There are those who perceive themselves as helplessly trapped in situations beyond their control. When this is the perception it is common to perceive yourself as a victim. In truth one may only be a victim so long as one allows it. Having grown up and then married into abusive relationships I can say with authority that when you are ready to move from victim to empowered, you can do so. Changing your perception is, in my own experience, an ongoing process but it can be done with amazing results.

Recognizing that you have given your self power away is the first step to bringing harmony back to the solar plexus chakra.  Acknowledgement that allowing this giving over of self power is not for your best good is a key step to healing.  Healing occurs as you allow yourself to reclaim your will and perception of self power.  As you journey through this process, boundaries will be required to protect your new choices. Each time you hold your boundary you feel more empowered.

As you take the steps to bring balance and harmony to the solar plexus chakra you can enjoy the natural state that was intended for you – laughter, joy and empowerment.  In every case I have witnessed symptoms heal as harmony is restored to the Solar Plexus Chakra.
